Admitted in Hong Kong, England & Wales, as Barrister and Solicitor in Nauru, and am awaiting admission to the New York Bar (scheduled for August 2026).

I spent my entire legal career in East Asia and South-East Asia. I worked at international law firms in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing and Singapore as a partner.  My experience spans the entire range of commercial and shipping and offshore matters including commodity disputes, construction disputes (all types of vessels/units, including cruise ships), bunker disputes, EPC contracts, drilling contracts, sale & purchase disputes, SPAs, SHAs, pooling agreements, charterparties (including the dispute underlying the arrest of the Henna cruise ship in South Korea in 2013), sale- and leasebacks, and cargo/bill of lading disputes. I have worked extensively for and against Asian parties throughout my career.   
 
Arbitration Experience (as of 9.6.2026)

As arbitrator:

Total of 297 appointments to date in LMAA, SCMA, SIAC, AIAC, SMA, HKIAC, HKMAG and ad hoc arbitrations as sole, party-appointed and Chair. 

Conducted multiple hearings, including as Chair, and have drafted and published 52 awards, with numerous interlocutory orders made. 

My experience as arbitrator covers all manner of maritime disputes (charterparties, bills of lading, sale and purchase disputes relating to all types of vessels and charterparty forms), disputes related to construction of vessels and rigs, high value commodity sale contract disputes (especially in Asia) involving coal, magnetite concentrate and nickel ore.  I also sit in general commercial disputes and was recently appointed as presider in a major Hong Kong-seated commercial arbitration.
