Capt Shiraz commenced his shipping career in 1999 and sailed on board a variety of foreign-going vessels involved in Oil, Chemical and Liquefied petroleum gas trade. He embarked on his seafaring career at 18 with Denholm, UK (later Anglo Eastern) after completing his pre-sea training at TS Rahaman in 1999. Rising through the ranks from deck officer to Master, he has served on VLCCs, product and chemical tankers, container vessels, and later commanded gas carriers transporting LPG, ammonia, ethylene, propylene, butadiene, VCM and other petrochemical gases. He thereafter transitioned to shore-based role in 2015 and has been in charge of Marine operations of Large Sea going Gas carriers including LNG carriers and has experience of carriage of various grades of petro chemical gases.

Capt. Shiraz Lakhani currently serves as the Deputy Marine & Safety Director at PG Ship Management Pte Ltd, Singapore, overseeing the fleet of Very Large petroleum & LNG gas carriers engaged in global transportation of cryogenic LNG, LPG and petrochemical gases.

 Academically, Capt. Lakhani holds a Masters Competency licence for unlimited tonnage, BSc in Nautical Technology (Distinction) from the University of Mumbai and an MBA in Shipping & Logistics Management from TNOU, Chennai. He further specialised in legal studies at NUS Law, completing the Graduate Certificate in International Arbitration and Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime Law & Arbitration.

In 2025, he secured the highest marks in Shipping Business, Shipping Law and Shipping Finance in the ICS (UK) examinations and received the Best Overall Student Award conferred by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. He is a Qualified Arbitrator (SIArb) and a Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (MICS). Capt. Shiraz has a deep knowledge of Marine operations involved in trade of hydrocarbon products, via oil, chemical and liquefied petroleum gases. He has extensive hands-on experience covering the full range of commercial shipping activities such as ship owning and operating, supply chain logistics, commodity trading, sale & purchase, and joint ventures especially in his current role as head of Marine department of ship owning and operating company. He has advised inhouse commercial and legal teams in drafting charterparty contracts and provided timely operational guidance to avoid potential cargo disputes due to his extensive knowledge of contracts and charterparties.
