Over 30 years’ experience of commercial shipping and international transport operations worldwide. English lawyer resident in Oslo, Norway. 

Sara has over 275 arbitration appointments since arbitrating full-time in early 2018, and is a Full Member of the LMAA. Experience of acting as sole, on a panel and as Chair.

With an executive history in shipping, insurance and commercial property, Sara’s extensive operational knowledge spans chartering and ship-owning, shipbuilding, insurance, derivative trading, maritime logistics and commercial property.

Her career started at City of London law firm Ince & Co, she moved on to a law firm in Oslo and then to P&I/FDD Club Skuld in Oslo. She became the first lawyer in-house at, and ultimately General Counsel of, global dry bulk ship operator Western Bulk (offices in Oslo, Singapore, Santiago and USA). Sara has been a regular visitor to Singapore and the Far East for most of her career.

Sara’s extensive hands-on experience covers the full range of commercial activities from management services, supply chain logistics, trade finance, asset sale & purchase, joint ventures, corporate finance, cross-border insolvency issues, to corporate governance issues, service agreements, leasing, regulatory and compliance issues.

Other relevant industry experience is as a representative on Bimco Documentary Committee (6 years) and non-executive board experience in marine insurance and commercial property.

Sara has successfully resolved a wide variety of disputes worldwide, including in many Far East jurisdictions, and has extensive knowledge of mediation and arbitration. An accredited mediator with a proven track record of negotiating settlements, she understands the importance of preserving commercial relationships. In arbitration, she understands the need for efficiency of procedure and costs.
