Full -time arbitrator in independent practice. Jeffrey is a former master mariner with 18 years’ seagoing experience up to master on a variety of foreign going ship types including VLCCs, petro-chemical tankers, bulk carriers, anchor handling vessels and ocean-going tugs. On coming ashore, Jeffrey obtained a BSc (Hons) degree in maritime studies. He is also an associate fellow of the Nautical Institute.

From 1993 to 2011, Jeffrey practiced as a maritime lawyer in the City of London, qualifying as a solicitor in 1998 and handling a wide range of maritime disputes. In 2011, he joined Thomas Miller, managers of the UK P&I Club and UK Defence Club, to handle a variety of P&I and Defence claims.

Jeffrey was promoted to a Senior Claims Director (P&I) in 2012 before becoming Global Technical Claims Director (P&I) in 2016 responsible for the strategic handling and management of the UK Club’s largest casualty, cargo loss and technical claims across the Club’s offices worldwide. Now retired from Thomas Miller, Jeffrey has extensive experience in legal and technical issues arising from Carriage of Goods, cargo loss and damage, ship collisions, groundings, fires and explosions, salvage, General Average, unsafe port and bunker contamination disputes.

Since 2023, Jeffrey has been a full-time arbitrator with over 100 appointments and is an Aspiring Full Member of the LMAA. He has experience of both live and virtual arbitration hearings.
