Mr. Smith KC has been involved in shipping and arbitration work throughout his professional career of over 35 years. He has been involved in many leading shipping and arbitration cases including representing GAFTA in the seminal case of Halliburton v Chubb, the salvors in The “Tilawa” and owners in The “MSC Flaminia”, all in the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.

Mr. Smith KC’s shipping practice involves both wet and dry shipping. He has extensive experience of salvage and collision cases as well as charterparty and bill of lading disputes and ship construction and sale and purchase disputes.

Mr. Smith KC is a supporting member of the LMAA and an SCMA panel arbitrator. He has been accepting appointments as arbitrator for over 25 years and has written awards as sole arbitrator, party appointed arbitrator and as chair. His appointments range from yacht collision cases to charterparty and bill of lading disputes including ship and yacht sale and purchase disputes and claims under charterparty guarantees.

Mr. Smith KC is one of the editors of Scrutton on Charterparties and Bills of Lading.
