Arbitrating since the early 1990s in a variety of commercial disputes, including shipping, aviation, insurance, trade, commodities, partnerships, travel, property, professional liability, and infrastructure. Has undertaken arbitrations in Australia, Singapore, and Hong Kong, both as sole arbitrator and as a member of arbitral tribunals in a variety of commercial disputes, including shipping, aviation, insurance, trade, commodities, partnerships, travel, property, and infrastructure projects.

Appointed a partner of Phillips, Fox & Masel (now DLA Piper) in 1968. In 37 years as a partner (retired 2005), acted variously as chairman of management committee, chairman of partners, member of national board, and partner responsible for Vietnam offices. Ron practised as a litigation/dispute resolution lawyer, with an emphasis on transport, maritime law, and marine insurance.
