DennisMathiew is a boutique shipping law firm based in Singapore. It is headed by shipping lawyers, Dennis Tan and Mathiew Rajoo (who is also a master mariner).

We provide one-stop legal services to companies in the shipping, transport and logistics industries. Our lawyers are cross-trained to handle both contentious and noncontentious shipping legal work thus we are often able to bring our experience to bear when advising clients.

We handle both ‘dry’ and ‘wet’ shipping claims. We regularly act for clients as both solicitors and counsel in arbitrations involving disputes arising from charterparties, shipbuilding contracts, ship sale and purchase contracts, international sale of goods/commodities contracts, ship agency contracts, marine insurance policies (hull & machinery, cargo and P&I policies), cargo claims, bills of lading disputes, bunker claims, ship collisions, tug and tow disputes, and freight forwarding claims. These arbitrations include institutional arbitration and ad-hoc arbitration, in Singapore and elsewhere in the world.

As for non-contentious work, we assist our clients in setting up their business, preparing corporate documents, advising our clients and/or drafting contracts for them in areas such as shipbuilding or repair, ship sale transactions, commodity and international trade, charterparties, offshore projects or construction projects, oil and gas, and financial services relating to shipping. We routinely recommend to our clients to incorporate the SCMA arbitration clause into their contracts. We have, on many occasions, incorporated the SCMA arbitration clause in the contracts we have drafted.

Our clients include shipowners, charterers, shipyards, freight forwarders, logistics companies, marine insurers, P&I Clubs, cargo shippers/consignees, traders, banks and financial institutions, shipping agents, ship and insurance brokers, various port authorities, oil companies, offshore support companies, fishing companies, shipping registries, and law firms from other jurisdictions. Many of our clients are based outside Singapore.
