Dr. Zhang has been engaged in shipbuilding for more than 18 years in a marine engineering company within a large international shipping enterprise. He has qualified the National legal professional qualification examination (BAR qualification) of China. He is professional at both business practice of shipbuilding/offshore engineering and knowledge of shipbuilding law and is familiar with the legal practice of international sale of goods.

Dr. Zhang is a Senior Engineer (Associate Professor) of shipbuilding and offshore engineering, a supporting member of the London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA), an arbitrator of the China Maritime Arbitration Commission (CMAC), and a senior member of the Chinese Society of Naval Architecture. At the same time, he obtained the qualification certificate of arbitrator training jointly organized by the Law School of Tsinghua University and Beijing Arbitration Commission(BAC), the training qualification certificate of maritime law (theory and practice) jointly organized by the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Maritime Arbitration Center of Shenzhen International Arbitration Court, and the graduation certificate of the minor of enviror mental law and sustainable development jointly organized by Tongji University and the United Nations Environment Program.

Dr. Zhang has actively carried out academic and legal research of shipbuilding, and has completed several Chinese and English papers on shipbuilding and offshore engineering, shipbuilding law and risk management etc. He was appointed as a concurrent professor as off-campus supervisor of Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School as well as Tongji University, and a director of Equipment Quality Branch of China Society of Technology Economics (CSTE) etc.

Dr. Zhang handled the commercial bidding, contract drafting and negotiation of more than hundred shipbuilding and offshore engineering projects applicable to British law. Within that, Dr. Zhang engaged in contract modification and dispute resolution of related projects before delivery AND participated in mediation or arbitration of tens shipbuilding and offshore engineering projects, successfully solved disputes between shipowners (or offshore engineering customers) and shipyards.

Dr. Zhang accepts the appointments in the areas of maritime arbitration and dispute resolution as arbitrator, mediator, evaluator, adjudicator, or DRB member, with a particular focus on shipbuilding, offshore construction and engineering, international sales of goods, financing of ship and offshore projects, and international trade.
