Philip KemberyBurns
Independent Arbitrator

Philip has a broad and diverse background in the maritime sector ranging from working as a solicitor to working inside a ship owner and charterers’ office. Philip’s legal qualifications are supplemented by real time industry experience which has proven to be valuable when considering the submissions and evidence of the reference.

Philip strives to apply the commercial common sense gained during his days working alongside the Managing Director and Chartering Manager of a ship owing company or using the knowledge gained as a result of the vast array of cases during his time in marine insurance and private practice.

Philip has been involved in arbitrations as both the Claimant and Respondent when working for the ship owning company; as the insurer during his time in the P&I industry; as the lawyer representing clients and, since 2018, as part of the tribunal itself.

Philip has experience of live and virtual hearings.
