The Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA), established in November 2004, provides the international maritime community with an independent, efficient and reliable dispute resolution institution in fast-developing Asia.
SCMA offers parties involved in maritime disputes with a network of internationally renowned, experienced arbitrators; comprehensive, user-friendly arbitration rules which ensure an impartial and speedy arbitral process; and a quantum-based fee structure which provides certainty of cost.
As an institution administering arbitration, SCMA provides a measure of institutional oversight and a suite of services to facilitate the progress of arbitration, allowing parties and the arbitrator to concentrate on the substantive aspects of the dispute which they are tasked to resolve. These services include:
- Appointing the arbitrator(s), including carrying out conflict searches and requiring arbitrators to abide by a strict code of professional conduct;
- Managing all the financial aspects of the arbitration;
- Performing the duties and functions which the Chairman, the Registrar and other officers of SCMA are required to perform under the Rules;
- Arranging the logistics, facilities and services for hearing; and
- Attending to all other clerical and administrative services
